  • You may have noticed our blog went into a bit of a hibernation during the winter. But with spring comes signs of new life, including warm-weather beer! I decided to go with a saison, named for the harvest season (perhaps inspired by my late-winter dreams of late-summer vegetables). This being my first attempt, I decided I would just be safe and buy Brooklyn Homebrew’s kit, so while I can’t take credit for the recipe here it is:

    Fermentables
    2 oz CaraVienne malt
    1 lb Castle Pilsner malt
    6 lbs gold malt extract
    1 lb light candy sugar

    Hops
    1 oz. Bullion hops
1 oz. Mt. Hood hops (for aroma - their recipe technically calls for Liberty hops but they were out)

My original gravity was 1.058, just higher than their target of 1.057 (but I also have a little less than 5 gallons). I’ll update in a few weeks to give the final gravity.
