  • I hate winter.  You’d think after 27 years of it (minus a couple winters spent in the tropics), I would come to terms with it, but no.  I hate being cold and not being able to spend time outdoors.  Snow is ok to look at but turns disgusting within an hour or so, and I don’t ski.
Really, the only exciting thing for me as fall comes to an end is the new seasonal foods.  In particular: scallops.  We are fortunate to live by the Grand Army Plaza greenmarket, where Blue Moon Fish sells their locally-caught scallops.  The prices are not terribly brokavore (I think we paid almost $10 for a scallop feast for two), but are o.k. for an every-once-in-awhile indulgence.
Wanting to serve the scallops in an equally-seasonal fashion, and having ample apple cider on hard, I looked up recipes for apple cider-glazed scallops, and went with this one, from the blog Rachel’s Bite.  Following the recipe pretty faithfully (though using regular apple cider not Irish cider and reducing the butter amounts), it turned out amazing.
